Portfolio Mentor

Lisa Labbe SIMPLICITY LAB

What I love: Her presentation is elegant and easy to understand. Her visual design strengths come through easily.

Platform and hosting: Squarespace. I’m a circle developer at SS. If you choose this platform, let me know, and I will get you a discount.

Austin Knight Design Lead Google, Hubspot

What I love: Free-flowing style. I have a sense of who this designer is immediately. He puts out his current interests and engagements at the top. And rounds everything out in a cohesive narrative flow. Check him out. I find him very inspiring.

Platform and hosting: WebFlow

Andrew Cauldwell ROOM FIVE

What I love: He coded his own website in his specific visual style. As a Medium writer myself, I appreciate how he connects the importance of knowing how a digital product works behind the scenes in code through his Medium authorship. Awesome!

Platform and hosting: Custom-coded by Andrew. Very creative.

Podcast Mentor

UI for Breakfast Jane Portman

What I love: Breadth and depth on the issues, the inspirations, the knowledge, and the community.

Apple Podcasts is where I listen: Seriously have this podcast as your breakfast pal.

Amy Santee Career Journey Blog + Podcast

What I love: Have you ever had an entrepreneur crush? Amy is definitely one of mine. If you brought Andy Worhol and Amy Sedaris into one super productive, smart human who serves up creative high EQ guidance every single week, that’s Amy Santee.

Favorites: Laura Klein & Amy Santee discuss freelance & consulting in tech.

So, apparently, I'm co-hosting a podcast about hiring in tech!

MACs LIST Top Career Podcasts of 2023

What I love: Robust resource for anyone career-ing in 2023. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, this job board may be very helpful to you.

Mac is also a real person and a very nice one at that!

Research Mentor

ACM Digital Library

What I love: This is the backbone of the UX field. For any subject you are seeking deep information, this is where to go. You will see some Nielson Norman papers here and more.

Nielson Norman Group

What I love: If this site were a shoe in my closet it would be disgusting. Worn but not dusty. Luckily I had the privilege of working with them at different points in my career and am so grateful for their knowledge repository that has gotten me through many projects

MIT Press Journals, Books, Papers

What I love: I find all of the good stuff here. For the deep divers, you will love the journey. I will humbly recommend Bill Moggridge’s book Designing Interactions. However, if you aren’t up for a 62.00 book, there are plenty of free journals PDF downloads, like this one on Linguistic Inquiry (foreshadowing Ai perspectives).
